If you get diagnosed with gestational diabetes or some other issue that pertains to strictly the time when you are pregnant, know that this is just a temporary thing. It will help you get through the days of your pregnancy knowing that as soon as you are holding your baby you will know that it was all worth it.

Keep every single one of the appointments you have with your medical care provider in order to stay one step ahead of any situation that may develop. Appointments are scheduled at calculated intervals so the doctor can monitor every stage of fetal development and how your body is effected by the pregnancy. To make sure the both of you are in tip top shape, don't miss an appointment!

Take a childbirth class. Classes are offered in many doctors' offices and online. Topics covered include nutrition, exercise, relaxation, epidural anesthesia, pain relief in labor, preparing for labor and childbirth, as well as breastfeeding and baby care. Classes are generally offered once a week over a six to eight week period. Studies show that couples that attend regular childbirth classes are prepared and relaxed during childbirth.

If you are pregnant and planning to breastfeed your baby, plan ahead for your breast-pumping needs. Some mothers don't pump, but it helps to have a supply stored for emergency in case you are ill or need to be away from baby. The best advice is to rent a hospital pump if finances allow. They work in a fraction of the time the store-bought variety does, and with less discomfort!

Although it can be fun, when decorating your baby's nursery avoid painting or putting up wallpaper while you are pregnant to avoid the harmful fumes. Have your partner or some friends to take care of those jobs, and stay out of the room until the paint or wallpaper glue dries and the room is fume-free.

Get some form of exercise every day during your pregnancy. Women who exercise while pregnant have better energy, sleep better at night, experience less back pain and other pregnancy discomforts, and generally have a shorter and easier labor. There are several exercise videos dedicated to pregnancy that will ensure you are doing moves that are safe.

Memory retention during pregnancy is not wonderful so make sure you write important things down, especially dates and times of doctors appointments. It may just be slight absent-mindedness or it may be full on forgetfulness. However, in the majority of cases things will return to normal once the birth has occurred.

You may find it difficult to sleep during the third trimester. For a more restful slumber try sleeping on your left side with a pillow between your knees. This position alleviates pressure on a the IVC (a large blood vessel in your back,) and increases the blood flow to the fetus.
